I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show when I was 8 – I knew I wanted to play drums from that
moment. By age 10, Watson Pryor and I (with two other friends) had formed a band, and we stayed on
that path together, joined by my brother, Dane’, until our senior year of high school, when I went on tour
with A.L. Richard Band (yes while still in high school!) and Watson decided to go a more conventional
route. A.L. Richard Band eventually included Mike Fowler, who joined us on the Stevenson & Company
project. I was not totally committed to earning a living as a musician at this point. I still had in mind being
an astronaut, but some dreams just die a hard death!
I eventually made it to college and majored in music. Playing guitar since age eleven and piano since
age sixteen, I was well prepared for music theory. I fell in love with classical music as a teenager, and the
study of classical music in college was a natural and comfortable path for me. I didn’t play popular music
again in a band until the 90’s, when once again, Dane’ and I shared the stage. As a band director,
composer, arranger and adjunct music professor at several colleges, I was immersed in music and that
immersion has continued through a host of changes in my careers, including leaving teaching in 1998
and becoming a Microsoft Systems Engineer. Several of my original compositions were published in the
1980’s and 1990’s, and I wrote for my bands and friends continually throughout most of my life. You will
soon find a collection of all my music on this site. Please be patient while we build out the older
recordings and classical music sections. Songs from three albums are available now: King Mixer (1997),
Stevenson & Company “Out of Time” (2023) and “Songs Without a Home” (2026).
